Darlene McManus

Darlene, as a newbie to Livingston County (only 21 years), grew up with the small-town family atmosphere in Brighton. The mighty Chippewas of Central Michigan became her battle cry in 1987 where, after exploration of many avenues, she found her passion in Journalism and Public Relations, Student Politics and working with people.

Upon returning to Livingston County in 1992, Darlene pursued her own business venture in Desktop Publishing. For three years she designed newsletters, advertisements and brochures for local businesses, and still rattles off a newsletter or ad now and again. “That venture helped to build my confidence in working with people, develop my creativity and learn the value of a hard day’s work.”

During that time, Mike and Jane had another vision for Darlene, to build her into a team member of Micro Works Computing. She began slowly with training businesses in software applications and delivering parts to clients. And as time progressed, Mike would show Darlene something new, how to troubleshoot a problem, how to build a computer, how to make a client feel of value. “I always remember saying that I didn’t want to work with computers or in the family business and some 10 years after college here I am hip deep in the business helping small businesses become more successful through technology.”

“The day to day of being a member of the Micro Works team always lends itself to variety, learning something new, laughter and a building of the mind through books, seminars and sharing with the rest of the team. My favorite part of my job is the YOU, the client. My clients make my day enjoyable and I have come to learn much about them and to develop friendships. Our clients are our most important asset.”

Outside of the Micro Works day, Darlene lives in Howell with her children (the cats) and enjoys any time she can to work in the yard and spend time with her family and friends. She is always quick to start a conversation with one of the neighbor kids and get down on the ground to chalk up the driveway with them. “You can learn so much for a child. Sometimes we forget about the simple things in life and the possibility of using our imaginations.” And don’t forget….MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!
